Hey,

On July 17th, 2024, Dish merged the Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite brands into just one brand: Boost Mobile.

Boost Infinite has been discontinued.

Dish also launched new plans at new prices when it merged the two brands together.

What changed?

And how do Boost Mobile’s new plans stack up against the competition?

Here are 5 key changes you need to know about:

1. Discontinued Plans

Dish discontinued the following plans:

  • $8 for 1GB

  • $15 for 5GB

  • $25 annual plan with 30GB high-speed and 12GB hotspot

  • $30 3-month plan with 30GB high-speed and 12GB hotspot

  • $40 unlimited plan with 30GB high-speed and 12GB hotspot

Removing these plans simplifies Boost Mobile’s new plan lineup.

But what are the new plans?

2. New $25 Unlimited Plan

The new entry unlimited plan is basically the same as the $25 Infinite Unlimited plan that was offered before.

This plan replaces the outgoing $25, $30, and $40 unlimited plans mentioned above.

What do you get with the new $25 unlimited plan?

Here are the details:

  • Price: $25 + tax

  • Data: 30GB high-speed, then 512 Kbps

  • Hotspot: $10 add-on to use all 30GB as hotspot data

  • International Texting: $10 add-on for unlimited texting to 200+ destinations

  • International Calling: $10 add-on for unlimited minutes to mobile numbers in 50 destinations, landline numbers in 80 destinations, and variable minutes to 120+ destinations

  • Canada and Mexico Roaming: $10 add-on for unlimited minutes, texts, and 5GB roaming in Canada and Mexico

  • International Roaming: $20 add-on for unlimited minutes, texts and 1GB of international data per month

  • Device Deals: no trade-in deals

The biggest downgrade to the entry-level unlimited plan is that Dish removed any included hotspot data.

With the old Boost Mobile plans, you got 12GB of hotspot data.

3. New Unlimited+ Plan

Dish took the Unlimited+ plan from Boost Infinite and the Unlimited+ plan from Boost Mobile and merged them into one plan.

Here are the key changes comparing the previous Infinite Unlimited+ plan to the new Unlimited+ plan:

  • Price: $50 + tax → $50, taxes included

  • Data: 30GB → 40GB

  • Hotspot: $10 add-on → included

  • International Texting: 200+ destinations (unchanged)

  • International Calling: Unlimited minutes to mobile numbers in 50 destinations, landline numbers in 80 destinations, and variable minutes to 120+ destinations (unchanged)

  • Canada and Mexico Roaming: 5GB roaming included → $10 add-on for 5GB roaming

  • International Roaming: $20 add-on for unlimited minutes, texts and 1GB of international data per month

  • Device Deals: $830 off with trade-in → no trade-in deals

Overall, these are decent upgrades!

The price now includes taxes and fees, you get 10GB extra high-speed data, and you now get hotspot data included.

4. New Unlimited Premium Plan

Dish also launched a brand-new Unlimited Premium plan.

This wasn’t a plan that was offered before.

This one comes packed with features:

  • Price: $60, taxes included

  • Data: 50GB high-speed, then 512 Kbps

  • Hotspot: Included

  • International Texting: 200+ destinations

  • International Calling: Unlimited minutes to mobile numbers in 50 destinations, landline numbers in 80 destinations, and variable minutes to 120+ destinations

  • Canada and Mexico Roaming: Unlimited minutes, texts, and 5GB roaming in Canada and Mexico

  • International Roaming: $20 add-on for unlimited minutes, texts and 1GB of international data per month

  • Device Deals: no trade-in deals, but some device promotions available

In terms of included features, this is the best plan Boost Mobile offers.

Surprisingly, it’s not the most expensive plan. Those would be the Infinite Access for iPhone and Galaxy plans.

5. Price Hike for the Free Phone Plans

My favorite plans from the previous Boost Infinite brand were the Infinite Access for iPhone and Infinite Access for Galaxy plans.

What made them great?

They were $60 per month.

And they included a free phone.

You could get a free iPhone or Samsung Galaxy phone TODAY with no trade-in, and then every year after you could trade in your current phone for a brand new one.

In terms of financing deals, this was one of the simplest and easiest options for a single line.

And the fact you could get a new phone without having to trade-in your current device was awesome.

These plans were great for people just getting their first phone.

The Good News: The free phone deal is still in-tact! It’s the same as before. Free phone today with no trade-in. Then, free phone every year after with a trade-in. Phones are still locked to Boost Mobile.

The Bad News: The plans are $5 more expensive than before. They went from $60 per month to $65 per month.

The price increase makes me question if the new plans are really worth it.

Here are the full plan details:

  • Price: $60 + tax → $65 + tax

  • Data: 30GB high-speed, then 512 Kbps (unchanged)

  • Hotspot: $10 add-on (unchanged)

  • International Texting: 200+ destinations (unchanged)

  • International Calling: Unlimited minutes to mobile numbers in 50 destinations, landline numbers in 80 destinations, and variable minutes to 120+ destinations (unchanged)

  • Canada and Mexico Roaming: 5GB in CAN & MEX (unchanged)

  • Device Deals: $800 off with no trade-in & free annual upgrades with trade-in (unchanged)

Are Boost Mobile’s New Plans Worth It?

Boost Mobile faces tough competition.

At the $25 price point, you also have:

Cricket, Metro, and Visible all offer unlimited high-speed data on the AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon networks, respectively.

Considering Boost Mobile only offers 30GB of high-speed data, the other plans may be better-suited for heavier data users.

That said, it appears Boost Mobile may be giving customers who activate on the Dish 5G network access to unlimited high-speed data.

Assuming this is true, it makes the Boost Mobile $25 unlimited plan a more competitive option.

Plus, I’ve noticed my $25 unlimited plan gets 4K streaming when I’m connected to the Dish 5G network, which is a niticable upgrade over the other plans.

You just need to live in a location where Dish has rolled out its 5G network to get these benefits.

The Boost Mobile $50 Unlimited+, $60 Unlimited Premium, and $65 Infinite Access plans are likely not worth it.

Competition is healthy at the $50, $60, and $65 price points, and I feel other plans may give you a better value for your money.

  • Visible’s $45 Visible+ plan gives you unlimited data, unlimited hotspot at 10 Mbps, a free smartwatch line, and more on the Verizon network

  • Cricket’s $50 unlimited plan gives you unlimited high-speed data on the AT&T network

  • T-Mobile Prepaid’s $50 unlimited plan gives you unlimited high-speed data on the T-Mobile network

I feel like spending $50 or $60 per month for a plan with only 40GB or 50GB of high-speed data from Boost Mobile may be tricky to justify.

That said, the biggest advantages to Boost Mobile are the included hotspot data, 4K streaming on the Dish 5G network, and potentially unlimited data on the Dish 5G network as well.

I’m excited to do further analysis and see exactly how Boost Mobile’s new plans stack up against the competition.
