What is Dark Star?
5 reasons why US Mobile's new network is a big deal
Hey,
On August 1st, US Mobile launched its new Dark Star network.
What is Dark Star?
Put simply, Dark Star is how US Mobile is branding its access to the AT&T network.
US Mobile now offers service on all three networks:
Warp 5G (Verizon)
Light Speed (T-Mobile)
Dark Star (AT&T)
Why is this such a big deal?
Here are 5 reasons why US Mobile’s Dark Star launch is a BIG deal for consumers.
Visible Deal: Save $10/month on Visible+ for 2 years with code CHAMP (ends 8/31)
Watch my full video here if you’re a video person:
1. It’s the AT&T network
Many people were excited for the Dark Star launch for one simple reason:
It’s the AT&T network!
AT&T provides the best coverage and the fastest speeds for many people. It has the largest nationwide network, covering 78.1% of the U.S. and over 2.6 million square miles.
You can now enjoy the same great AT&T coverage on plans from US Mobile.
2. The Pricing
US Mobile kept all plan prices and data allotments the same with the launch of Dark Star.
And they now offer some of the most affordable plans on the AT&T network.
Instead of Red Pocket’s $10 1GB plan, you can get 2GB for $10 from US Mobile
Instead of AT&T Prepaid’s $25 16GB annual plan, you can get 35GB for $25 from US Mobile
Instead of Pure Talk’s or Good2Go Mobile’s $30 10GB plans, you can get 100GB (not a typo) for just $33 from US Mobile with the Unlimited Premium annual plan
Compare US Mobile’s plans with the competition on the Compare Plans page on my website.
3. US Mobile Now Has Access to All 3 Networks
With the launch of Dark Star, US Mobile now has access to all three major networks: AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
You can now pick any US Mobile plan and use it on whichever network provides the best coverage and most reliable performance in your area.
But how can you tell what network is best where you live?
You can use the free Coverage Map app.
Simply enter your state, city, county, or ZIP code and the app instantly tells you the #1 network in your area.
4. You Can Switch Networks Any Time You Want To
Did you sign up on Warp 5G (Verizon) and find it isn’t performing as great as you thought in your area?
Or did you move to a new city and realize your current network is way worse than the other ones?
You can now switch networks at any time you want to on US Mobile.
US Mobile launched their new Teleportal feature, which allows you to transfer your phone number between the AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon networks with just a few clicks from your online dashboard.
This cool feature ensures you can always switch to the best network in any given area.
Each US Mobile plan includes two free Teleports for the life of the plan and then it costs $2 per Teleport.
The exception is the Unlimited Premium plan, which includes unlimited free Teleports.
5. Priority Data
Yes, you read that correctly!
US Mobile offers an add-on to get priority data on the Dark Star network.
If you are unfamiliar, priority data gives you slightly faster data speeds and better performance during times and locations when the cellular networks are busy. Purchasing the priority add-on would give US Mobile customers the same network priority level as AT&T postpaid customers.
The priority data add-ons cost $12/line/month for the monthly unlimited plans, $10/line/month for the annual unlimited plans (paid as $120 upfront), and $4/line/month for the shared data plans.
How much of a difference does priority data make?
Honestly, I am unsure! It likely varies based on location, number of active device connections, and available capacity a given tower. This is something I plan to test further in the near future.
Do you need priority data?
Probably not.
AT&T has an exceptional network built to handle a lot of devices connected at the same time. Maybe you would notice a difference at a concert or other event where there were a lot of people.
Either way, I am excited that US Mobile gives you the option to choose a higher network priority if you want it!
The Ultimate Flexibility
US Mobile launching Dark Star is huge because it gives you, the consumer, the ultimate flexibility.
You can choose to activate any plan on the AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon network, depending on which network is best in your area.
You now have more affordable AT&T plans to choose from.
And you have the freedom to Teleport between the AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon networks any time you want to.
