I Built Crowdsourced Cellular Coverage Maps
Now available in the US, Canada, and the UK
Hey friend,
If you’ve been following me for a while, you may know that I co-founded CoverageMap.com with my business partner, Trevor, back in 2022.
Our goal?
Make it easy for people to compare accurate, real-world cellular coverage data.
This project has been a journey:
March 18th, 2023: we launched a crowdsourced map of cellular coverage in the US
May 8th, 2023: we launched the Coverage Search tool
June 23rd, 2023: we launched the Coverage Map app for iPhone
September 1st, 2023: we launched the Coverage Report Map
October 9th, 2023: we launched the Coverage Map app for Android
March 11th, 2023: we launched the built-in speed test feature for iPhone
January 1st, 2024: we launched the built-in speed test feature for Android
Today, over 100,000 people have downloaded the free Coverage Map app and contributed over 10 million tests. 🎉
This has been absolutely amazing.
And, it gets better.
I am excited to share that CoverageMap.com is expanding to Canada and the UK!
Starting today, Canadians and Brits have access to crowdsourced cellular coverage maps with powerful features and incredible functionality.
This will empower everyone in Canada and the UK to make more informed decisions about which carrier is right for them.
Watch the official launch video below:
7 Features You'll Love:
🥇 Best Carrier View: Easily see which carrier is best in a given area,
🔍 Street-Level Detail: Compare performance block-by-block with squares down to 0.1km* in size
🏎️ Speed Filter: Only show areas that meet your minimum speed requirements, such as 10 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up
📊 Best, Average, Median Performance: Filter the map by best, average, and median values for download speeds, upload speeds, and latency
📈 Rich Data In Every Square: Click or tap on any square to see a summary of performance and compare performance between carriers
🗼 Epic 3D View: Explore an epic 3D view of cellular coverage where the height of the rectangular prisms corresponds to how fast the data speeds are
🗺️ Your Own Personal Map: When you upload tests to your account, you have the option to toggle "show my tests only" to see your own personal map of cellular coverage
*0.1km size requires CoverageMap Pro subscription
How Can I Contribute?
Wondering how you can contribute to the crowdsourced maps?
Simply download the free Coverage Map app for iPhone or Android, turn off Wi-Fi, and run a cellular test!
Even if your country hasn't launched yet, all of your tests will be saved and will show up when we do launch there.
You can also upload any existing tests you may have taken on other popular speed testing apps, such as Ookla Speedtest, nPerf, or SpeedSmart.
Here’s a video on how to do that:
