T-Mobile's New Unlimited Plans: Explained!
A price hike in disguise
Hey friend,
On April 23rd, T-Mobile launched two all-new unlimited plans:
T-Mobile Experience More
T-Mobile Experience Beyond
What’s new?
I can answer this in two words:
Price hike.
Sure, the new plans are packed with features.
And they do have some nice improvements.
But, at the end of the day, this is a price increase.
In this newsletter I’ll cover:
What’s new
How the prices changed
If existing customers should upgrade
Let’s dive in.
T-Mobile Go5G Plus vs. Experience More

Experience More replaces the Go5G Plus plan.
Two key changes:
Price
Hotspot data
1. Price
Go5G Plus was $90 per month with taxes and fees included.
Experience More is $85 per month with taxes and fees excluded.
While T-Mobile is marketing this as a price decrease ($5 less), the reality for most people is that this is a price increase.
Why?
Because the added cost in taxes and fees are likely more than the $5 drop in price.
A big reason for this is T-Mobile added a new “Regulatory programs / Telco recovery fee” of $3.99 PER LINE to the plans.

Add in your normal taxes and fees (I see $1.30 in my area):

And you’re looking at $5.29 in extra taxes and fees.
Sure, $0.29 extra over the Go5G Plus might not be THAT much more…
BUT, this is just my area.
This price could easily be higher in other areas based on their local taxes and government surcharges.
And the $3.99 recovery fee is PER LINE.
Families may be paying a lot more on the new plans.
I’ll show you the full price breakdown in just a moment.
But first, the second change:
2. Hotspot Data
Hotspot data increased from 50GB on Go5G Plus to 60GB on Experience More.
Feature Comparison
Here’s a completely look of all features on both plans:
Go5G Plus | Experience More | |
---|---|---|
List Price | $90/mo | $85/mo |
Estimated after tax | $90.00/mo | $90.29/mo |
Data | Unlimited priority | Unlimited priority |
Hotspot | 50GB, then 600 Kbps | 60GB, then 600 Kbps |
Video streaming | 4K (no speed cap) | 4K (no speed cap) |
International Texting | 210+ countries | 210+ countries |
International Calling | $15 add-on | $15 add-on |
Canada & Mexico Roaming | 15GB | 15GB |
International Roaming | Unlimited texts & 5GB in 215+ countries, calls at $0.25 per minute | Unlimited texts & 5GB in 215+ countries, calls at $0.25 per minute |
Tablet line | $20 add-on | $20 add-on |
Smartwatch line | $12 add-on | $12 add-on |
Price Comparison
Here is how pricing stacks up for multiple lines:
Go5G Plus (taxes & fees included) | Experience More (list price) | Experience More (after tax, estimate) | |
---|---|---|---|
1 line | $90 | $85 | $90.29 |
2 lines | $150 | $140 | $150.58 |
3 lines | $150 | $140 | $155.87 |
4 lines | $185 | $170 | $191.16 |
5 lines | $220 | $200 | $226.45 |
And oh, what do you know.
Looks like a high probability of a price increase across the board after taxes and fees.
Note: I used $5.29 as the estimated taxes and fees per line. You pay taxes and fees even on free lines. Even though T-Mobile advertises “3rd Line Free,” it is truly free on Go5G Plus, but costs those extra taxes and fees on Experience More.
T-Mobile Go5G Next vs. Experience Beyond

T-Mobile Go5G Next was previously T-Mobile’s top-of-the-line plan. It had all the same features as Go5G Plus, except for one key advantage:
It let you upgrade your phone every 1 year instead of every 2 years.
T-Mobile changes this with Experience Beyond.
Experience Beyond is now packed with upgrades.
I’ll show you Experience Beyond vs. Experience More in just a moment.
First, here are four key changes between Go5G Next and Experience Beyond:
Price
Hotspot data
Canada and Mexico data
International data
1. Price
Both plans are listed at $100 per month for a single line.
But Go5G Plus was tax inclusive.
And Experience Beyond is tax exclusive.
So expect a price increase of $3.99+ per line per month for Experience Beyond.
2. Hotspot Data
Hotspot data increased 5x. It went from 50GB on Go5G Next to now 250GB on Experience Beyond.
3. Canada and Mexico Data
Canada and Mexico data doubled from 15GB to 30GB.
4. International Data
International data tripled from 5GB to 15GB.
Feature Comparison
Here is a quick breakdown of how all the features stack up:
Go5G Next | Experience Beyond | |
---|---|---|
List Price | $100/mo | $100/mo |
Estimated after tax | $100/mo | $105.29/mo |
Data | Unlimited priority | Unlimited priority |
Hotspot | 50GB, then 600 Kbps | 250GB, then 600 Kbps |
Video streaming | 4K (no speed cap) | 4K (no speed cap) |
International Texting | 210+ countries | 210+ countries |
International Calling | $15 add-on | $15 add-on |
Canada & Mexico Roaming | 15GB | 30GB |
International Roaming | Unlimited texts & 5GB in 215+ countries, calls at $0.25 per minute | Unlimited texts & 15GB in 215+ countries, calls at $0.25 per minute |
Tablet line | $5 add-on | $5 add-on |
Smartwatch line | $5 add-on | $5 add-on |
Price Comparison
Here is a quick breakdown of multi-line pricing:
Go5G Next (taxes & fees included) | Experience Beyond (list price) | Experience Beyond (after tax, estimate) | |
---|---|---|---|
1 line | $100 | $100 | $105.29 |
2 lines | $170 | $170 | $180.58 |
3 lines | $180 | $170 | $185.87 |
4 lines | $225 | $215 | $236.16 |
5 lines | $270 | $260 | $286.45 |
And what do you know.
It appears prices have also gone up after all taxes and fees.
Should You “Upgrade” To These New Plans?
For most existing T-Mobile customers, the answer is easy:
No.
No, you should not.
Your current plan likely meets your needs. All you would be doing is paying extra when you “upgrade” to a new plan.
The only plan that may be worth upgrading to is Experience Beyond.
And its for 3 types of people:
Heavy hotspot users (upgrades hotspot from 50GB → 250GB)
Frequent Canada & Mexico travelers (upgrades data from 15GB → 30GB)
Frequent international travelers (upgrades data from 5GB → 15GB)
If you fall into one of those three categories, I do feel the new Experience Beyond plan is likely worth it for you, even if it costs a bit extra.
What About for Magenta MAX Customers?
For Magenta MAX customers, it is a bit more nuanced.
If you are locked in to the iPhone Forever Program or continue to be eligible for $800 to $1,000 off, then you should 100% stick with your current plan.
HOWEVER, I asked on Reddit, and it sounded like the Magenta MAX plan may now only be eligible for up to $300 off with a trade-in:

And if that is the case, then you would actually save money by upgrading to new plan.
It turns out the extra $500 of trade-in credit towards a new phone offsets the increased plan cost.
Here’s a quick breakdown for a single line with financing an iPhone 16 Pro Max over 24 months:
Plan | Trade-in Credit | Plan Cost | 2-Year Total (plan + phone) |
---|---|---|---|
Magenta MAX 830 | $830 | $85 | $2,409.99 |
Go5G Plus | $830 | $90 | $2,529.99 |
Experience More | $830 | $90.29 | $2,536.95 |
Go5G Next | $830 | $100 | $2,599.99 |
Go5G | $300 | $75 | $2,699.99 |
Experience Beyond | $1,000 | $105.29 | $2,726.95 |
Magenta MAX 300 | $300 | $85 | $2,939.99 |
Magenta MAX is the most affordable if you are able to get $830 off a new iPhone.
BUT, if you’re relegated to the $300 trade-in tier, then Magenta MAX is suddenly the MOST expensive for a single line.
Here’s the same breakdown for four lines. The 2-year total is the total per line:
Plan | Trade-in Credit | Plan Cost | 2-Year Total (plan + phone) |
---|---|---|---|
Magenta MAX 830 | $830 | $42.50 | $1,389.99 |
Go5G Plus | $830 | $46.25 | $1,479.99 |
Experience More | $830 | $47.79 | $1,516.95 |
Go5G Next | $1,000 | $56.25 | $1,549.99 |
Experience Beyond | $1,000 | $59.04 | $1,616.95 |
Go5G | $300 | $38.75 | $1,829.99 |
Magenta MAX 300 | $300 | $42.50 | $1,919.99 |
Same story with 4 lines.
If you have the iPhone Forever Upgrade program or are otherwise able to get $830 off your new phone, then Magenta MAX is the most affordable option.
But if you are only getting $300 off, then despite having the cheapest cost per line, Magenta MAX ends up being the most expensive due to that lower trade-in value per line.
Another important note for Magenta MAX customers:
If you accumulated a lot of free lines and your net cost per line is $25 or less, then you should NOT upgrade under any circumstances.
Even if T-Mobile only gives you $300 off device trade-in deals, you are still saving money over the new plans due to your significantly lower cost per line.
Good News for Go5G Next Customers
As I am writing this, I JUST got wind that T-Mobile is actually upgrading the Go5G Next plan to have the SAME features as the new Experience Beyond plan!
That means you’ll get:
The same 250GB of hotspot data
The same 30GB roaming in Canada and Mexico
The same 15GB international roaming
So absolutely no reason to upgrade.
Enjoy still having taxes & fees included in your plan!
