Hey,

Total Wireless just launched three new unlimited plans.

How do these new plans stack up against the old ones?

And are they worth it?

Here’s what you need to know.

Total Wireless Old Plans vs. New Plans

Total Wireless previously offered four plans to choose from:

  1. 5GB for $30

  2. 15GB for $35

  3. Unlimited data with 10GB hotspot for $45

  4. Unlimited data with 20GB hotspot for $55

Let’s take a look at the changes one plan at a time.

1. 5GB Plan → Discontinued

Total Wireless has discontinued the 5GB plan for $30.

This is honestly great news because that was a terrible plan.

You could get the same 5GB of data on the Verizon network for just $16 per month from US Mobile.

Or, for $25 per month you could get unlimited data from Visible with the Visible Base plan.

So the 5GB plan for $30 was not worth it, and I am happy to see it is gone.

2. 15GB for $35 → Unlimited for $40

Total Wireless made 7 key changes to its 15GB plan for $35:

  1. Name: Total by Verizon 15GB → Base 5G Unlimited

  2. Price: $35 plus tax (with auto-pay) → $40, taxes and fees included (with auto-pay)

  3. Data: 15GB → Unlimited

  4. Hotspot: Included → 5GB at 5 Mbps

  5. International Texting: Canada and Mexico only → 200+ destinations

  6. International Calling: Canada and Mexico only → 85+ destinations

  7. Canada and Mexico Roaming: included with 2+ lines → included

Overall, I think these are generally positive changes.

You get more high-speed data, more international calling and texting options, and free roaming in Canada and Mexico with just a single line.

The price did increase though.

Here’s a chart to compare the multi-line pricing:

Total by Verizon 15GB (with auto-pay)

Total Wireless Base 5G Unlimited

1 Line

$35

$40

2 Lines

$60

$80

3 Lines

$80

$100

4 Lines

$90

$100

If you factor in about $5 per line in taxes and fees to the old 15GB plan, then the pricing is about the same for one line and four lines.

However, for two and three lines the price definitely went up.

3. Unlimited with 10GB Hotspot → Unlimited with 15GB Hotspot

Total Wireless made 9 changes to its $45 unlimited plan:

  1. Name: Total by Verizon Unlimited → Total 5G Unlimited

  2. Price: $45 plus tax (with auto-pay) → $50, taxes and fees included (with auto-pay)

  3. Data: no 5G Ultra Wideband access → 5G Ultra Wideband access included

  4. Priority Level: deprioritized → priority data

  5. Hotspot: 10GB at full speeds → 15GB at 5 Mbps

  6. International Texting: 5 countries → 200+ destinations

  7. International Calling: 5 countries → 85+ destinations

  8. Canada and Mexico Roaming: included with 2+ lines → included

  9. International Roaming: not supported → unlimited minutes, texts, and 10GB roaming in 17 countries

You get some nice extra features with the new plan.

But the price did go up.

Here’s the pricing breakdown for multiple lines:

Total by Verizon Unlimited

Total Wireless 5G Unlimited

1 Line

$45

$50

2 Lines

$70

$85

3 Lines

$90

$110

4 Lines

$100

$110

It is a similar story here as with the previous plan.

If you have one or four lines, pricing is likely pretty similar to what it was before after you factor in all taxes and fees.

But if you have two or three lines, you’ll be paying more on the new plan.

4. Unlimited with 20GB Hotspot → Unlimited with Unlimited Hotspot

Total Wireless made 8 key changes to its top-tier unlimited plan:

  1. Name: Total by Verizon Unlimited+ → Total 5G+ Unlimited

  2. Price: $55 plus taxes (with auto-pay) → $60, taxes and fees included

  3. Priority Level: deprioritized → priority

  4. Hotspot: 20GB at full speeds → unlimited at 5 Mbps

  5. International Texting: 69 countries → 200+ destinations

  6. International Calling: 69 countries → 85+ destinations

  7. Canada and Mexico Roaming: included with 2+ lines → included

  8. International Roaming: not supported → unlimited minutes, texts, and 10GB roaming in 17 countries

Again, you get some nice extra features with the top-tier unlimited plan in exchange for a slightly higher price.

Here’s the pricing breakdown for multiple lines:

Total by Verizon Unlimited+

Total 5G+ Unlimited

1 Line

$55

$60

2 Lines

$80

$95

3 Lines

$100

$120

4 Lines

$110

$120

Like with the other options, Total Wireless appears to have kept prices pretty similar after taxes and fees for one and four lines, however the two and three line prices have gone up.

Are Total Wireless’s New Plans Worth It?

For one or two lines, I would avoid Total Wireless.

I think the new plans are too expensive for the features you get.

The Visible Base plan for $25 or the Visible+ plan for $45 will give you more features at better price points.

BUT…

For three or four lines, Total Wireless’s new plans are great options.

With four lines, the cost per line drops to around $25-$30 per month.

That’s a great value.

And with the Total 5G Unlimited plan, you now get unlimited priority data, 15GB of hotspot data at 5 Mbps, and much improved international features.

Total Wireless is also be better for families because you can easily manage multiple lines under a single account.

With Visible, each line needs its own separate account, which means extra emails and passwords to keep track of.

I think the pricing, simplicity, and features of Total Wireless will make it a great option for families.
