Hey,

On June 20th, 2024, US Mobile launched new plans.

What’s new?

Here’s what you need to know.

1. US Mobile Unlimited Flex

US Mobile’s Unlimited Flex plan saw two changes:

  1. Price: $15 per month → $17.50 per month

  2. Hotspot: $2.50 add-on for 5GB → 5GB included

US Mobile basically included the hotspot add-on by default and kept the price the same.

That said, the starting price increased, and it is a bit of a downgrade if you do not use hotspot data.

2. US Mobile Unlimited Starter

Unlimited Starter got 6 key changes:

  1. Price: $29 per month → $25 per month

  2. Annual price: $23 per month → $22.50 per month

  3. Multi-line discount: removed

  4. Canada and Mexico roaming: beta feature → 1GB, 150 mins, and 150 texts included in annual option (paid add-on for monthly option)

  5. International data: 1GB included → 1GB included in annual option (paid add-on for monthly option)

  6. International calls: calls to 200+ countries included → only included in annual option ($3 extra for monthly option)

US Mobile made Unlimited Starter even more affordable.

It now starts at just $25 per month compared to $29 from before.

My guess is this change is to better compete with Visible Base, which also starts at $25 per month.

It appears US Mobile made compromises to bring the starting price down to $25 per month though. International data roaming and international calling are now paid add-ons for the monthly version of this plan.

The annual version of the plan includes data roaming and international calling for free, which make it a more compelling option.

If I were you, I would probably start off with the monthly version of the plan.

Then, if it meets your needs, you may consider switching to the annual version for a better price and extra features.

3. US Mobile Unlimited Premium

US Mobile Unlimited Premium got the best changes out of any of US Mobile’s plans.

  1. Price: $50 per month → $44 per month

  2. Annual price: $37.50 per month → $32.50 per month

  3. Multi-line discount: removed

  4. Canada and Mexico roaming: beta feature → 10GB, 1,000 mins, and 1,000 texts included

  5. International data: 10GB in 101 countries, 5GB everywhere else → 5GB in all countries

  6. Super Carrier mode: beta feature → NEW, allows you to transfer your phone number between US Mobile’s Warp 5G and GSM 5G networks as often as you’d like

The big story with US Mobile Unlimited Premium is the price.

The price dropped to $44 per month with the monthly option and to $32.50 per month for the annual option.

The new prices are aimed squarely at the Visible+ plan. Visible+ is $45 per month with the monthly option and $32.92 per month when paid annually.

US Mobile’s new prices undercut Visible.

The other big change is US Mobile’s new Super Carrier Mode.

Super Carrier Mode, also marketed as “TelePortal” and “network transfer tool,” lets you internally port your phone number from one US Mobile network to another.

If you sign up on the Warp 5G network, which uses Verizon, you can easily switch over to the GSM 5G network, which uses T-Mobile, with just a couple of clicks from your online dashboard.

This can be super helpful if you are traveling across U.S. and visiting a spot where one network is better than the other.

Or, if you move to a new apartment or home, you can easily switch to the best performing network in your new area.

Super Carrier Mode will become even more powerful when US Mobile adds the AT&T network to their offerings, which is slated to launch on July 15th.

It is worth noting that all other US Mobile plans include two network transfers for free for the life of the plan. Then, additional network transfers are $2 per transfer.

4. US Mobile Shared Data Plans

US Mobile simplified their Shared Data Plans offerings and kept prices the same.

Before, there were four data shared data buckets you could choose from: 2GB, 6GB, 12GB, and 30GB:

Now, there are just two options: 2GB and 10GB:

The good news is that you can configure the Shared Data Plans to be equal to or better than before.

How?

By using the data add-ons.

The two data add-ons are:

  • $2 per GB (must purchase 2GB or greater at a time)

  • $15 per 10GB (must be configured with the plan setup)

Here is how you get the same or better rates as before:

  • 6GB: 2GB base ($10) + 4GB add-on ($8) = $18 for 6GB

  • 12GB: 10GB base ($20) + 2GB add-on ($4) = $24 for 12GB

  • 30GB: 10GB base ($20) + 20GB add-on ($30) = $50 for 30GB

The Shared Data Plans keep the exact same features from before:

  • Hotspot is included

  • International texting is included

  • International calling to 200+ destinations is included

Overall, I appreciate the simpler plan lineup and that prices are the same or better as before.

5. US Mobile Light Plan

US Mobile’s Light plan saw three interesting changes:

  1. Price: Same, $10 per month

  2. Annual price: $6 per month → $8 per month

  3. Data: 1GB → 2GB

  4. International calling add-on: same for monthly ($3 per month), increase from $24 to $36 per year for annual plan

The monthly version of the Light Plan is definitely an improvement!

Its data doubled from 1GB to 2GB, and all prices and features remained the same.

For the annual plan, the changes are not necessarily good or bad. It is more of a different plan. The price increased to $8 per month ($96 upfront for 12 months), and the international calling add-on increased from $24 per year to $36 per year.

That said, considering you’re now getting 2GB of data for just $8 per month, the new annual plan has a lower cost per GB and is likely a better overall option for most people.

However, you may want to consider the 2GB Shared Data plan instead of the Light plan.

The 2GB Shared Data Plan is also $10 per month, and it adds support for the mobile hotspot feature, which is something the Light Plan does not support.
