A breakdown of Verizon's plans and which one is #1

Hey,
Verizon offers 3 cell phone plans to choose from.
Only 1 is worth it.
Here’s a breakdown of Verizon’s plans, which one is worth it, and the best alternatives.
Verizon’s three plans are:
Unlimited Welcome
Unlimited Plus
Unlimited Ultimate
Let’s dive in!
Unlimited Welcome (not worth it)
Verizon Unlimited Welcome is Verizon’s most affordable plan.
It’s $65 per month for 500GB of high-speed data before unlimited data at 4Mbps. Video streams at 480p. International texting is included, and you also get unlimited minutes, texts, and 2GB of roaming per day in Canada and Mexico.
Hotspot is $10 extra for 100GB.
International roaming is also $10 extra for 3 days with unlimited minutes, texts, and 2GB of data per day.
The problem is Unlimited Welcome is not worth it.
How come?
Because you can get about the same features at a much lower price with the Visible Base plan.
Visible Base costs just $25 per month for a single line.
It includes unlimited high-speed data, unlimited hotspot data at 5Mbps, international texting, and international calling to 6 countries.
You can also grab 2GB of roaming per day in Canada, Mexico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico for $5 per day.
International data is available at $10 per day for 2GB per day.
When you stack Verizon Unlimited Welcome up against Visible Base, it simply isn’t a competition.
Visible Base delivers you a better value plan no matter how many lines you have:
Verizon Unlimted Plus (not worth it)
I used to love Verizon Unlimited Plus.
Now, I don’t.
Unlimited Plus is Verizon’s mid-tier plan. On the surface, it seems like a good value.
It costs $80 per month for unlimited priority data, a healthy 30GB of hotspot data, 720p video streaming, international texting, and unlimited talk, text, and 2GB of data per day in Canada and Mexico.
So what’s the problem?
Two problems:
1. The device promotions
When Unlimited Plus first launched, it was eligible for the best device promotions Verizon offered.
You could get up to $830 off the iPhone 15 Pro with a trade-in:
Now, however, Unlimited Plus is only eligible for a pitiful $415 off:
It’s surprising how much of a difference the trade-in credit makes on the overall value of Unlimited Plus.
With $830 off, Unlimited Plus is the most affordable plan Verizon offers:
With just $415 off, Unlimited Plus is suddenly Verizon’s most expensive plan:
I can’t recommend Unlimited Plus because we do not know how much trade-in credit it will be eligible for in the future, and that has a big impact on its overall value.
There is also reason #2:
2. Visible+ gives you the same features at half-price
Why pay extra when you can get the same features at a better price?
Visible+ is Visible’s flagship plan, and it has about the same features as Verizon Unlimited Plus.
Visible+ includes:
50GB of priority data on 4G LTE and 5G Nationwide
Unlimited priority data on 5G Ultra Wideband
Unlimited hotspot data at 10Mbps
480p video streaming
Free international texting
2GB per day in Canada and Mexico
500 minutes of free international calls to 30+ countries
One free international roaming day per month
A free smartwatch line
Those are more included features than Verizon’s Unlimited Plus plan.
How much does it all cost?
Visible+ is just $45 per month.
For 1-3 lines, Visible+ will save you between $350 and $600 per year:
For 4+ lines, Verizon Unlimited Plus is cheaper than Visible, even with the $415 of trade-in credit.
That said, you can still save money with US Mobile’s Unlimited Premium plan, which also comes packed with features.
Verizon Unlimited Ultimate (surprisingly, worth it)
Unlimited Ultimate is Verizon’s most expensive plan.
I can’t believe I am saying this, but if you want to go with Verizon, I think Unlimited Ultimate is the plan you should be on.
Unlimited Ultimate costs a whopping $90 per month for a single line.
For the price, it comes with premium features.
You get unlimited priority data, 60GB of hotspot data, 1080p video streaming, free international texting, 2GB per day in Canada and Mexico, and unlimited talk, text, and 10GB of data per month while roaming internationally.
Most importantly, Unlimited Ultimate is eligible for Verizon’s best trade-in deals.
Stacked up against Verizon’s other plans, Unlimited Ultimate falls in the middle in terms of pricing after discounts:
That said, you can still save money by considering prepaid carriers such as Visible and US Mobile:
If you want a plan from Verizon directly, I think Unlimited Ultimate is your best option.
It gives you the best features and experience on the Verizon network at a reasonable price. Plus, you’re guaranteed to get Verizon’s best device trade-in deals, which helps save you money over the Unlimited Plus plan.
If you’re looking to save even more money, then you may want to consider prepaid cell phone carriers such as Visible and US Mobile.
